I’m talking about the ones with feathers. Over the bank holiday I saw two instances of birds in strange places. First, I saw a duck in my road that caused me to swerve wildly to avoid it. Second, I saw a peacock on the streets of Hampton-in-Arden while on my way to the tip.
Can anyone who lives in Hampton-in Arden verifyor explain this strange sighting?
I think they might be something to do with the Shakespeare ‘estate’. I don’t mean his car. I mean his land.
I doubt it. I think Shakespeare’s too dead to look after peacocks.
Whilst on a bike ride going through Knowle last summer I was confronted by two rather large swans in the middle of the road. It was a rather posh road (just around the corner from Packwood House) and it turns out they were the property of a guy who lived in one of the mansion like houses there. He called at me, so I stopped and he said something like “Make sure they don’t go any further whilst I try to get them back in”. I thought to myself, how do I stop 2 swans from going anywhere they like? I waited for a minute whilst he went to his house………then I rode off into the sunset never to return!
I think the lesson here is don’t keep swans as pets, or never trust a man on a bike!
I can verify the peacock lives on the village green in Hampton in Arden. Having recently moved into the village I was puzzled by the loud noises coming from across the road on Fentham Green – this was explained a week or so later by the large mail peacock wandering into our roadway.
Apparently it appeared about a year ago and now just wanders around the village. Don’t mind the thing apart from the bloody noise it generates all hours during the Spring and Summer months. Still apparently air rifles are cheap round these parts
Ha, ha yes Percy makes a lot of noise. It’s simply because he is desperately searching for a partner and obviously there isn’t one. I live in the house right by the green and he spends most of his day in my back-garden or at my neighbors. He is amazing every morning I wake up to him with his full feathers spread out while he parades around in circles, waiting for me to feed him or to get him some water. I can hear him going mad now as I write this and have many videos and photo’s of him eating out of my hand. Friends who come to visit don’t believe their eyes when they see him trying to come in through the back door.
I spoke to the local faces and have heard so many story’s I don’t know what to believe. One story was that he escaped from a Peacock farm in Barsall Common if there is such a thing I dont know about it or bothered to find out. The other story is that one of the people who lives in the private road by the Station had a party and hired (as you can do these daft things now) 20 Peacocks and Percy (sorry but thats what we named him) escaped. There is a guy who I wont name who has threatened all sorts to get rid of him and says he drives him mad with his sqwaking and yes it can be annoying at 4am like this morning but how many people can say they get to see daily such a beautiful creature? I have been thinking about buying a female if such a thing is possible to buy to maybe keep him quiet. There is tens of acres of conservation woodlands behind us so what better place for them to live anyway. In fact the very reason I came here was after typing Peacock Hampton in Arden because I was looking to see an article that was in the Evening mail someone told me the other day.
I will try to post some pictures not sure how this site works yet first time here.
I’m working on a womens magazine based in London and we are interested in this story.
